A few facts

Bulgaria is one of the oldest countries in Europe. It boasts cultural heritage from Thracians and Ancient Rome, The Bulgarian Empire, Byzantium, Ottoman rule, and many other cultures that have occupied or passed through these lands in the last several thousand years.

A predominantly Christian country, it is also a home to Muslim, Jewish and other religious and ethnic groups. Part of The European Union since 2007, Bulgaria is on a crossroad between Europe and Asia. The official currency is the Bulgarian Lev, equal to  0.51 Euro.

What to expect

Bulgarian mountains

Bulgaria has 4 seasons and enjoys a temperate climate. Most winters are not very cold and offer good conditions for skiing. Most summers are hot with temperatures between 24 up to 40 degrees.

Just as with its moderate climate, Bulgaria also offers a wide variety of wildlife, yet very few species which pose a danger to humans. The latter, however, rarely cross paths with people, so injuries and fatalities are extremely rare.
